Cryer’s Plugger, an impressive distance winner over 732 metres in 44.03 seconds at Tara Raceway last Sunday, will change kennels next week.
Apsley trainer Tom Cryer – whose wife Margaret owns the brindle dog – said Cryer’s Plugger would be transferred to the Buln Buln East kennels of highly-respected trainer Steve White who moved from NSW to Victoria in 2015.
“Steve comes highly recommended and because we’re not really in a position to travel extensively with our greyhounds the move will give Plugger the opportunity of racing regularly over more suitable longer distances,” Cryer said.
White and his family commenced the ride of a lifetime back in the mid-2000s when Paua To Burn broke five track records, won the 2005 Golden Easter Egg, Sandown Laurels, two Sapphire Crown Classics, Temlee, Rookie Rebel and was a finalist in the Melbourne, Australian and Brisbane Cups.
All told, the black and white daughter of Awesome Assassin x Alice Dooley won prizemoney of $434,705.
The Ray Fewings owned Don’t Kid Me, shortly after winning at Tara Raceway in July 2016, was transferred to White and subsequently won at The Meadows, Bendigo, Ballarat, Sale, Warragul and Traralgon. He also ran fourth in this year’s Group 2 Traralgon Cup final behind Jesaulenko and Mount Gambier Cup winner Fabregal.
And White’s wife, Kerrie, was successful earlier this year with Suffragette who won the $210,000 Sandown Park Launching Pad by 10 lengths.
Whelped in January 2015, and with a record of seven wins and 15 minor placings from 30 starts, Cryer’s Plugger is from a repeat mating by Spring Gun out of Cryer’s Midget – an 11-race winner at Tara Raceway.
Collectively, the two litters have now produced 93 winners for Tom and Margaret Cryer – another family enjoying the ride of a lifetime.
