Connections of promising young greyhound Faster Bolt picked up a handy SA-bred bonus after his sensational win in the Gordon Refrigeration Maiden Stake (400 metres) at Tara Raceway on Friday afternoon.
A luckless fourth at his first race start five days earlier, Faster Bolt was slowly away from box eight in Friday’s time-graded event but into the back straight quickly railed through on Hard Call to take the lead before racing away to an eight length win.
The winning time of 22.98 seconds was the fastest ever run for a maiden 400 metre race at Tara Raceway and eclipsed the previous best 23.02 seconds recorded by Solitary Girl in June this year.
By Irish-bred sire Milldean Panther out of Galactic Rumball, a winner of three races at Tara Raceway, Faster Bolt qualified for the recently-introduced $1000 Greyhound Racing SA bonus which is for SA-bred (2016 onwards) maiden winners on SA tracks.
The January 2016 white and fawn dog was bred at Moorak by Robert Chuck who receives $500 of the bonus while the Gillespie-Chuck Syndicate will share the other half, along with the race prizemoney.
Syndicate members are workmates – and former workmates – Ken Gillespie (also the trainer), Jack Peacock, Steve Bartholomew, Steve Bartholomew jnr., along with Chuck, who maintained a share in Faster Bolt after selling him to the syndicate at eight months of age.
This is a syndicate formed some 12 years ago when the boys put in to buy a greyhound called Modern Joy. Since then plenty of other winners have followed – Magic State, Magic Elite, Scull Magic, Cape Roxy, Sharkaris, Galactic Tsunami and now Faster Bolt ensuring they have never since had to draw on their reserves.
Chuck is also enjoying success in his own right with the litter, Galactic Panther and Galactic Cat both having won at Tara Raceway.
Meanwhile, connections have since announced that Faster Bolt would join Steve Elsum’s Camperdown kennels next week.
