It’s been a busy week for Black Spring who returns to Tara Raceway on Sunday to contest the Trackside Meats Open Stake (512 m) for his Edenhope owner-trainer Cap Abbott who is enjoying his best-ever year at the local track with 56 winners.

First, the son of Spring Gun and Lektra Scarlett was at Bendigo last Friday when running third over 660 metres before following up with another third placing on Wednesday in a 600 metre event at The Meadows.
Sunday’s race distance won’t altogether suit Black Spring but the five-dog field will, Abbott no doubt hoping for some more Greyhound of the Year points to shore up what looks to be close to an unbeatable lead.
Currently, Black Spring leads the way with 68 points over Cryer’s Plugger 57 and Springvale Alysa 55, that pair unlikely to race again and perhaps leaving the chasing to Cryer’s Harper, a winner of her past six starts but still giving the leader 14 points.
