Fair enough, it was a far cry from the Mount Gambier Cup of a few weeks ago, but a winner all the same.
And cup-winning trainer Brian Weis of Portland was more than happy to take the win of Hello Marshmello in the Metal Worx Maiden Stake (400 m) at Tara Raceway last Sunday.
Lining up for only her second race start, the February 2016 black bitch was quickly on the pace from box seven before running home strongly to defeat Viking Storm and Mount Duke in 23.66 seconds.
In Weis’s kennels since last month, the Shane Fisher owned Hello Marshmello boasts an interesting pedigree, being by the NZ-bred Above All out of the US-bred Jailbreak Lass.
By Magic Sprite x Kara Janx, Above All was a dual Group 1 winner of more than $300,000 in Australia while Jailbreak Lass, a winner of three races in Victoria, is a daughter of Paddy Whacker x CDN Kat Burgler.
Meanwhile, Weis had his cup winner Xtreme Caution engaged on Tuesday at Horsham where he clashed with Robert Halliday’s cup consolation winner Hutch in a mixed 4/5 stake over 485 metres.
Hutch, well drawn in box one, continued his terrific form of late when running down Summer Skye to win by a half length in 27.48 seconds while Xtreme Caution, after a slow getaway from box six, worked home well for third.
