Athena to make long-awaited debut

Tuesday, May 14, 2019

There’s a bit happening around the country on Thursday night as far as local greyhound racing followers are concerned.

Locally owned and trained Galactic Athena, winner of the Fairthorne Forestry Mount Gambier Cup (512 m) in March, will make her long-awaited debut at Angle Park.

Trained at Worrolong by Steve Bartholomew for Moorak owner Robert Chuck, the daughter of Paddy Whacker and Galactic Rumball looks well placed from box seven in the Kurt Donsberg Stake (515 m), a grade six G-SIX event for bitches only.

Galactic Athena’s last start was on April 24 at Warrnambool where she ran third in a heat of the Warrnambool Cup (450 m) behind Dyna Patty who the following week won the $47,000-to-the-winner Group 2 final.

Meanwhile, Portland trainer Nicole Stanley is heading to Sandown Park with her stayer Dyna Quota who ran third in last week’s Bay Road Queen Stayers Cup (731 m) final at Angle Park.

Dyna Quota has drawn box two in heat three of the RSN Sandown Cup (715 m), the lure of $175,000-to-the-winner of next week’s final attracting four star-studded heats for the stayers.
